Pharmacy delivery program

On July 26, 2024, British Columbia's Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, issued an order to end the COVID-19 public health emergency first declared on March 17, 2020. With this, many of the orders, regulations, and services put in place temporarily as pandemic response measures have now been lifted.

During the pandemic, BC Transplant temporarily provided free medication deliveries to reduce in-person interactions and minimize the risk of exposure to COVID-19. However, as the public health orders have now been lifted, BC Transplant will also be resuming its pre-pandemic medication delivery model.

If the transplant recipient is outside of their current transplant's pharmacy's free delivery radius (if applicable), effective June 1, 2025, BC Transplant will cover medication deliveries as per our previous delivery coverage criteria:

  1. The transplant recipient is financially unable to cover the cost of delivery (e.g., They are receiving income assistance or disability assistance through the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction), AND
  2. The transplant recipient is unable to access a transplant pharmacy in their community, either because they have a disability or they live more than 15 kilometers away.

Deliveries will be covered once every 90 days, or as needed if the transplant care team requires changes to the transplant recipient's medication regimen, until the end of the calendar year (Dec 31st of each year), upon which a new application will need to be completed.

If the transplant recipient meets the above criteria, they need to fill out the form below and return it to their transplant pharmacy by April 1, 2025.

BC Transplant will continue to cover deliveries for these circumstances:

  • Non-standard transplant medications that are only available from select transplant pharmacies and are not provided by the recipient's regular transplant pharmacy
  • Northern BC patients currently serviced by City Centre Pharmacy in Penticton
  • Emergency situations requiring immediate response

Some transplant pharmacies include free medication deliveries within a certain distance as part of their existing services. Here is a detailed list of the transplant pharmacies and their current delivery programs.

Transplant recipients can transfer their transplant medication prescriptions to any of the transplant pharmacies on the list. Their current pharmacy can assist with prescription transfers.
