Starting in 2025, BC Transplant is partnering with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) on a new initiative to help grow organ donation registrations in British Columbia.
In 2021, the Canadian House of Commons and Senate passed Bill C-210 (43-2): An Act to amend the Canada Revenue Agency Act (organ and tissue donors) to support organ and tissue donation and transplantation across Canada. The legislation granted the CRA authority to collect and share with provincial jurisdictions the email addresses of Canadians interested in learning more about organ and tissue donation and transplantation, and donor registration.
Beginning with the 2024 tax filing year, with tax returns being completed January to April 2025, the CRA will secure consent from British Columbia taxpayers for their name, email addresses and postal codes to be shared with BC Transplant. Later in the year, BC Transplant will email interested taxpayers directly with information about organ and tissue donation and transplantation and how to register as a donor.
Taxpayers will not be consenting and/or registering to become an organ donor at the time of this authorization and will only be authorizing the disclosure of limited personal information to BC Transplant for a one-time email.
Here is what you will see for the first time on the 2024 tax year forms:
Consent to share contact information – Organ and tissue donor registry
I authorize the CRA to provide my full name, email address and postal code to BC Transplant so that it may contact or send information to me by email about organ and tissue donation. For more information about organ and tissue donation in British Columbia and Canada, go to
